The Island Bay Festival showcases the talent and diversity of our community here on Wellington’s beautiful South Coast (wild winds ‘n’ all).
There’s the usual fun festival faves: market stalls, mouth-watering food, great coffee, fairground rides, two stages of bands (featuring local/up-and-coming talent), a colourful noisy parade, local entertainers.
We also do ‘unusual’ - like how to successfully freeze avocados, eggs and milk (apparently we kiwis send 122,547 tonnes of food to landfills) - so get smooth with a smoothie plus key intel on how to save food and money at the Blender Bike during a Day at the Bay.
If an early morning swim floats your boat, then sign up for the Tapu Te Ranga race at a Day in the Bay. And this year Cardinal John Dew is blessing the new sea wall (1:30pm), followed by the now famous ‘blessing of the boats’… a spectacular sight in the Bay.
There’s info and activities throughout the Festival to tickle just about everyone’s fancy: from crafting; an informative bush n native bird walk; a talk with supper on the Bay’s history; Tai Chi; the Teddy Bears’ Picnic; Lego and trolley racing (get creative and get busy building - there’ll be prizes - register online now), to Ribble’s top swap and trade. That’s just a taste of what’s on. And of course, if you’re local and keen to volunteer then let’s be haven ya good people - email put me to work.
