Come into the dark Carillon Tower, with only the heavy solstice moon and candles to guide you. You will enter what is probably Wellington's most reverberant concert space, filled tenfold with live Gregorian soundscapes by guitar-artist Joel Vinsen.

Joel is followed by a concert from Aurora IV, performing late medieval, renaissance, and 'contemporary' songs written from the 11th century onwards in a mix of Icelandic, Latin, Italian, French, German and English.

About Joel Vinsen: Joel is an Auckland based musician who creates improvised soundscapes, using pedals, looping, and prepared guitar (manipulating the guitar with foreign objects). Preparations include pocket fans, a milk frother, bobby pins, electrical clips, paint brush, remotes, magnets, surgical haemostats, coins, metal dishes, string, cellphone, various lengths of metal, violin bows, and a saw blade.

Aurora IV: have performed extensively as soloists and ensemble members across Europe and New Zealand, and now combine their collective talents for this rare appearance as a quartet. Aurora IV are: Toby Gee (countertenor), Richard Taylor (tenor), Julian Chu-Tan (baritone) and Simon Christie (bass).

Doors: 7pm
Joel Vinsen: 7 pm (absorb the soundscapes and surrounds while you settle in).
Aurura IV: 7:35 pm – 8:15 pm (seated concert, or standing if you prefer).

Genre: Music

NB: this event will be inside the Carillon (not outside in the park).
