Announcing a micro-season of Love Letters by AR Gurney.

This Pulitzer-winning play will be performed in the first week of May as part of The PumpHouse Theatre's 40th Anniversary Celebrations.

The two original cast members, Sue and Max Golding will reprise their roles, which they first performed in 1977 - 40 years ago on The PumpHouse's brand new stage.

The 1990 Pulitzer Prize nominated play Love Letters explores the bittersweet relationship of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, a dutiful lawyer/politician, and Melissa Gardner, a free-spirited artist, which spans over fifty years of soaring victories and crushing defeats as told solely through the letters, notes and cards they wrote to each other.

This is a story about a boy and girl who are forever linked in mind, heart, and spirit. Life conspires to keep them apart; love inspires their journey together.

In his critically acclaimed plays, A.R. Gurney has wittily captured the manners of upper-middle-class WASP America, but never as gracefully or with such dazzling economy as in Love Letters. In an era of e-mails, Love Letters reminds audiences of the intimacy of correspondence as it traces the relationship of the impetuous, lively, but unstable Melissa with the staid, no-nonsense, play-by-the-rules Andy.

A smash hit both off and on Broadway, Love Letters captures Andy and Melissa and the changing world they live in with a fullness of detail that only Gurney can command.
