This exhibition features a colourful selection of new pastel artworks featuring scenes from mainly Wellington area from the South Coast, Wellington Harbour through to the Kapiti coast. Also included are some delightful scenes of the vibrant central city life and some more historic close to town, suburbs.

This is the third exhibition by The Kapiti Pastel Group presented at Artspace Gallery in Petone. Participating in this exhibition are members of the group, Wilson Lattey, Delia Alexandra, Margaret Brown, Wendy Butcher, Doreen Dolman, Ann Carter, Merlene Beard, Beverly Janes and Molly Barclay. The group have been together for over a decade, exhibited throughout New Zealand and have sold work overseas. They meet three times a month on the Kapiti coast and new members very welcome.

Originally discovered by the caveman, pastels were used by Degas, Renoir whose pastel artworks can still be viewed in galleries in Europe and still look as good as the day they were created. Pastels were very popular before the first world war and are recently making a big comeback. Pastels use pure pigments and artworks created using soft pastels are long lasting and don’t fade or crack.

Artists in this exhibition will be demonstrating their skills during the weekend, please follow us on Facebook for details.
