The Martinborough Music Festival team is excited to announce the inaugural chamber music festival in Martinborough to be held over three days on the last weekend in September.

This splendid new venture will celebrate the lovely Schimmel grand piano which was bequeathed to Martinborough by its owner Cherry van Kranen, who made our town her home for many years.

Renowned NZ concert pianist Michael Houstoun will give a solo performance on Friday evening. His repertoire includes a selection of J S Bach’s Preludes and Fugues and three delightful works by Erik Satie. The performance will conclude with Franz Schubert’s Sonata in G.

The afternoon concert on Saturday features the Zephyr Wind Quintet with Michael Houstoun. The major work for the afternoon is Piano Quintet in E Flat Major by Mozart.

On Saturday evening we have the very special Martinborough Festival Quartet playing Beethoven’s String Quartet No 11 in F Minor, and with Michael Houstoun joining the quartet performing the Piano Quintet in F Minor by Johannes Brahms.

The final concert in this very first series is on Sunday afternoon. The performance highlights two superb works by Franz Schubert, featuring the lovely Octet in F Major to complete the final concert for 2017. Our performers are The Schubert Octet, including Martinborough’s Ed Allen (Horn).
