Fresh from her successful Australian tour and headline act at Port Fairy Folk Festival.

With home as a hotel room and a suitcase, Mel Parsons built up a solid fan base the old fashioned way - winning over audiences one by one on the live circuit.

2015 APRA Silver Scroll finalist Parsons is dynamite on stage and well recognised as one of New Zealand’s established songwriting stars.

Last year Mel released her third full-length album, ‘Drylands’, to critical acclaim, winning a New Zealand Music Award and 2016 Best New Zealand Country Song for ‘Alberta Sun’.

Since its release, ‘Drylands’ has spent 32 weeks in the New Zealand Album Charts, peaking at No.2.
The release follows the success of both her debut album ‘Over My Shoulder’ in 2009, and ‘Red Grey Blue’ in 2011, both of which were New Zealand Music Award finalists for Folk Album of the Year.

Following performances at WOMAD in New Plymouth, Woodford Folk Festival and Byron Bay Bluesfest (Australia), and the Folk Alliance International (United States) in 2015, along with a Canadian tour and two headline tours in New Zealand (28 shows), Parsons continues touring relentlessly, with festival performances and shows throughout New Zealand and around the globe.

Solo or with her stellar band, Parsons is at home on stage and renowned as an engaging performer with a naturally emotive voice and razor sharp wit. With a wide breadth of material, she can swing from gutsy and rhythmic hand-clappers through to pin-drop ballads in a heartbeat.

Testament to Parsons’ songwriting is the endorsement of Canadian music royalty Ron Sexsmith, who lends his voice to the ‘Drylands’ track Don’t Wait.

Parsons is also a current cast member of Kiwi musical supergroup Fly My Pretties, with sell-out tours and festival performances throughout Australasia. Recent international tours have seen her performing in Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and Germany.

"Drylands mines a songwriting seem rich in both confidence and subtlety." - Otago Daily Times

"Keeping the crowd was a measure of the power and intimacy of her performance as much as how her songwriting grips for its intensely personal touch." - Graham Reid, Elsewhere

"Parsons is in possession of a wonderfully rich voice. There is a smoky quality that makes it impossible not to be drawn into her lyrics." - Marty Duda, The 13th Floor

"Mel Parsons was on song, drawing a huge following." - Taranaki Daily News

The Aucklander:
It’s a bit of a coup to have Mel here at the KFC… be sure to come early as we are expecting a big crowd! We will also have a range of hand-selected biscuits and piping hot tea and coffee at half-time.
