Mike’s early interest in music was stimulated by very diverse styles and genre from George Formby to Spike Jones to William Clauson. He started playing a banjo mandolin at age 12 with Beggs Musical Army in Dunedin and “mucked around” doing bits and pieces on the guitar and ukulele for a few years before joining Titirangi Folk Club in June 1970.
He played tenor banjo for the Lex Pistols dixie jazz band for over 20 years so the evening will include a wide range of musical styles and songs, some of which may even be “folk”. He will be joined by his wife Ros (ukulele), Graham Wardell (bass), Bob Large (harmonica), Bill and Kath Worsfold (ukuleles) and Murray Wardell (guitar and vocal) - but not all at once!
