Brian Beckenbauer is a very normal man, abnormally so. This is why he is so catastrophically surprised at the slightest disturbance to his daily routine. Excitable neighbours, passionate doorknockers and an omnipotent narrator each cast their own spin on Mr Beckenbauer’s mundane life to turn it into a buzzy inter-dimensional adventure in which he encounters various different challenges, including a pinch of spontaneous enlightenment. The play is about a new experience, existential awareness and how being left alone isn’t always the best for people.

Brian Beckenbauer’s Unexpected Encounter With Enlightenment is written and performed by Indigo Levett, Rohan O’Neil-Stevens, and Daniel Merry; three Nelson students keen on theatre and devising. They are ex Body in Space (a previous local theatre company) youth troupe members. The play was inspired by a mutual interest in existentialism and especially existentialist theatre.

Performed by Youth.
