Nell Gwynn, charts the rags to riches story of the eponymous heroine, from her roots in Coal Yard Alley to her success as Britain’s most celebrated actress, and her hard-won place in the heart of the king.

Our story begins in 1660 as Cromwell’s Puritans take their grey garb and hightail it out of town as Charles II, the 'Merry Monarch' opens the theatres and allows women on stage, and in particular Nell Gwynn whom he desires for a somewhat different role.

But at a time when women are second-class citizens, can her charm and spirit protect her from the intrigues of the court?

Winner of the 2016 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Jessica Swales’ Nell Gwynn is a witty and exuberant tale celebrating an incredible life with headiness and heart.

Audiences will be treated to sumptuous costumes, Renaissance themed music, King Charles spaniels, orange throwing and many stellar performances that will entertain, amuse, and enthral with the life in the Theatre Royal, Drury Land and the Kings Palace.
