This year's festival features some of New Zealand's best musicians mixing up a variety of jazz styles in concerts and gigs around Nelson over four days from 3-6 January.

We kick things off at 4pm on Tuesday 3rd January with the Founders Park Twilight Concert. This is your one chance in the festival to hear the amazing Reuben Bradley sextet Sing Sing Sing - along with four bands.

There are ticketed concerts by The Troubles, Richter City Rebels, Grant Smithies and The Lizard Kings.

We're bringing back the old school jam sessions at East St. Cafe from 9pm - 12pm each night. All the other gigs in the programme are free, made possible by the generous core funding from NCC and The Rata Foundation.

Performing at The Twilight Jazz Concert are Nelson Big Band, Cover Me, Django Junkies, TROQ and Sing Sing Sing.

Sing Sing Sing:
An exciting new show that features the jazz hits from the ’20s to today, showcasing the vocalists and vocal groups that made this style great. A cracking rhythm section backs three talented young vocalists who will take you on a journey from Swing, BeBop and Cool Jazz to Soul, Latin and R&B. The brainchild of award-winning drummer Reuben Bradley, Sing Sing Sing is a show that celebrates all the things we love about jazz from yesterday and today! Founders Park Twilight Concert.

Tom Rainey Organ Quartet (TROQ):
TROQ is an organ quartet from Christchurch performing an exciting mix of classic and new repertoire, as well as standards. Led by veteran jazz musician and Hammond enthusiast Tom Rainey, the group is comprised of a bunch of impressive young guns making their mark on the music world. Founders Park Twilight Concert.

Django Junkies with guest vocalist Caro Manins:
Vocalist Caro Manins joins Django geeks from around New Zealand to play acoustic swing music in the style of the legendary Hot Club of France. Founders Park Twilight Concert.

Cover Me:
Forged from molten funk and dipped in the grooviest jazz dust along the way, Trudi Wilson, Sam Atkins, Simon Williams, Mark McKenzie and Bruce McGregor, collectively take their favourite contemporary classics and funk them up to provide a soundtrack you’ll want to dance to.

Nelson Jazz Club Big Band:
The Nelson Jazz Club Big Band - styled after the great bands of the Forties and Fifties - is a traditional stage band that plays syncopated written arrangements with improvised interludes. Most people will be familiar with Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, but Big Bands have been popular since the dawn of jazz and show no sign of losing their appeal, with new arrangements of contemporary music appearing all the time.

The Nelson Jazz Club Big Band has been in existence for more than twenty years and has played at every Nelson Jazz Festival since its inception as well as playing regular gigs in the region.
