The Garden City Big Band play Sammy Nestico charts for their One Monday concert, led by Music Director Lana Law.

Tunes on the menu include Jumpin At TheWoodside, I Remember Clifford, Basie Straight Ahead & Switch in Time. Sammy Nestico is 93 years of age and is still writing and arranging music in the US. He has been a professional music arranger since 1941 & arranged music for the Count Basie Orchestra, U.S. Air Force Band and U.S. Marine Band.

In addition, he played trombone in the big bands of Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman & Gene Krupa. During a long career in the television and film industry, he arranged and conducted projects for Bing Crosby, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra & Barbra Streisand & has the orchestrated themes for nearly seventy television programmes.

The Garden City Big Band was formed in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1992 with the aim of promoting and performing both older and contemporary big band music, & for most of its life was led by Stu Buchanan. Lana Law is thrilled to lead the band as they showcase their favourite Sammy Nestico numbers.
