Come and take part in an introductory Pacific Island drumming and dance class, led by Jacob Samson, the Manager of Drums of the Pacific NZ. We'll have a set of real Island drums and drummers along with a female and a male dancer to demonstrate.

Jacob will introduce you to the cultural and historical features of this dance and music form. You'll get warmed up and then participate by following the dancers, to learn the beats and the moves.

Suitable for all ages, men and women. Please wear comfortable gym clothes. Women will be provided with a lava lava to wear over your own clothes. Everyone will work in bare feet during the class. To finish, Jacob leads us through an Island-style warm-down.

Whether you're from a Pasifika background or not, this is the ideal way to learn the basics of Island drumming and dance.

Drums of the Pacific New Zealand are the group who perform for the Warriors' home games and are registered with the Cook Island Government.
StudiOh! is a new creative concept providing short fun classes in all manner of madness. Based in Glen Innes and drawing on the local community for support and participation.
StudiOh! thanks Maungakiekie Tamaki Local Board for their support.
