Lots of work needs to go into preparing the Port Hills for planting this winter after the fires and you can help.

Council rangers are hoping to plant over 7,000 plants back and we need 8,400 protective cages made. These plastic cages protect the plants from being eaten by browsing hares, so are vital to restoration success.

Cage-making will be taking place most days at the Victoria Park ranger headquarters until 13 May. Each cage-making session can take up to 15 volunteers and the work is suitable for children 10 years and over so families are welcome.

All tools are provided.

Please register to attend; so that the rangers know to expect you on site and can be there to welcome you.

Venue: Victoria Park ranger headquarters.

Park in the public car park behind the Victoria Park Visitor Centre and then walk up to the ranger's headquarters where you will be greeted by a ranger.
