Ideal for beginners or those moderately experienced, this course introduces a range of clay forming and decorating techniques that will equip you to work independently at home. A range of hand-building approaches, wheel-throwing, slip-trailing, press-moulding and glaze decoration are covered. Your fee covers basic clay and materials costs as well as firing.

Although this course is focused on technical skills, you are encouraged to pursue your own creative direction as well.

Please note that over the weekend course, you will make your pieces. Bisque (first stage) firing will happen after the weekend course. Matt will invite you back to join one of his evening courses (Tuesday or Wednesday evenings) to glaze your pieces. After the final firing, Matt will advise when pieces are available for collection. This will be on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening during term time or at the next weekend workshop (these are held every 2-3 months).

Tutor: Matt, is one of New Zealand's top award-winning potters and is a dedicated and patient teacher.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
