Christchurch author Joanna Orwin talks about her book Riccarton and the Deans Family: History and Heritage.

Riccarton and the Deans Family: History and Heritage is the story of Dean's family, Riccarton House, and the Riccarton Bush Reserve. It includes the ecology of pre-European Putaringamotu (Riccarton Bush), the family’s dealings with Māori and farming at Homebush.

Riccarton and the Deans Family: History and Heritage was shortlisted for the New Zealand Heritage Book and Writing Awards in 2016.

Joanna writes fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults. Her background is in natural sciences as a plant ecologist and science editor. She also works as a freelance writer and editor on interpretation projects with a focus on natural and cultural heritage.
