A talk by Green Party MP, Denise Roche and Launch of the Peninsula’s new Sea & Native Bird Brochure, and Akaroa Reusable bags.

Every few days another part of the world becomes plastic bag free. The issue of plastic bags affects our country, our children and the oceans worldwide. Is NZ doing enough? Denise Roche, MP for the Green Party is advocating for a nation-wide ban on single-use plastic shopping bags. This talk is an opportunity for businesses and the community to hear Denise explain and discuss this concept, and how it could work for Akaroa.

Helen Rupp will also be in attendance showcasing colourful environmentally friendly draw-string waterproof shopping bags, stretchy vegetable bags, and paper-based straws.

In conjunction with the ‘Can Akaroa become Plastic Bag Free’ talk, the new Banks Peninsula’s bird brochure, and Akaroa Reusable bags will be launched.

The interactive bird brochure can be used as a ‘bird spotting’ activity for budding bird-watchers, and as it will include marine and native bush birds, it can be used on the harbour and around the town.

The Akaroa Reusable bags will be sold throughout the town.
