Violence against girls and women is a major New Zealand problem with serious, sometimes fatal, consequences. During this workshop specially for mothers and daughters (from 10 years and up) you will both learn the skills to keep yourselves safe. The overwhelming health, social and economic impacts of violence against women have prompted a recent emphasis on identifying effective prevention strategies.

Internationally there is now a sizable body of evidence pointing to the value of self-defence as such a strategy, including randomised control trials demonstrating reduced sexual victimisation following participation.

During this workshop, you will learn physical and verbal skills to feel confident and keep yourself safe.

Prerequisites: Girls attending should be 10 years and older. Course is not suitable for younger children.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
