Join us at the museum for a fun family performance by Eddie Madril and Sara Moncada of Sewam American Indian Dance.

Sewam American Indian Dance brings the music, arts and culture of Native America to audiences around the world, specialising in the dances of the United States Plains Indians. Visiting Aotearoa for the second time, Sewam Dance members will perform in Wellington, Auckland and Gisborne.

Native dancing and music is a beautiful and important component and expression of Native American heritage. It is one the most meaningful ways in which such heritage is presented to contemporary society.

Each song, dance and gesture illustrates a part of Native American culture as a people with roots in the distant past. Through singing, dancing, drumming and regalia, the spiritual and symbolic aspects of humanity are reenacted. Although many of the dances are social, they are also steeped in deep meaning and significance. - Eddie Madril & Sara Moncada

This performance is supported by the Embassy of the United States of America.
