The first event in the four events NZ Motorcycle Road Race Series for 2017. The event features a range of exciting action across the amazing Superbikes, Superstock 1000, Supersport, Superlite, Sidecars, Pro Twins, 125 GP, Lightweight Production and Production 250 racing for points across three races. The last group of races on Sunday campaign for the prestigious New Zealand Grand Prix in each of these classes. The race meeting is also supported by BEARS and a Development Class.

And the event is not just about racing with motorcycle club displays and trade stalls on site to give you plenty to look at between the races. An A4 glossy race programme will be available for sale at the gate.

The New Zealand Grand Prix was first held at Cust in 1936 at Easter on a gravel circuit 35 minutes out of Christchurch in the Waimakariri District. The club volunteers had to sweep the course and lay used engine oil on the track to keep the dust down. When young people look at photos of the old racers, they’ll notice their faces covered in oil mist and oil splotches but it's not from oil leaking engines, but spray from following other racers as oil covered gravel is flicked up as your fellow competitors accelerate away. In 1964 the Grand Prix was moved to the new sealed Ruapuna Park circuit southwest of Christchurch where it is still hosted today.’

A great day out for the family at the Mike Pero Motorsport to see great race action from the best road racers in new Zealand. The Superstock 1000 class will see some new Aprillia and Honda 1000 teams up against Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki mounted riders. Alex Phillis from Australia returns on the MV Agusta 675 F3 with Jake Lewis heading a strong Triumph team on T3 Racing tuned 675 triples. Cam Hudson, Damon Rees, and Shane Richardson will also be top contenders. Avalon Biddle the 2 x European Women's Road Race Champion will not let the guys have it all their own way either on here MTF sponsored machine. New to the class is Jet Josiah, son of former NZ Superbike champion Russell Josiah and last years NZ 125GP Champion Rogan Chandler of Wellington will campaign a Triumph 675.

Two full days of great racing from 150 plus riders will be the Summer event of Christchurch, and not to be missed.
