Built in 2006, Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Christchurch was opened to the public in 2007 and since been a platform for over hundreds of exhibitions for international and local artists until the great earthquake shook Christchurch in 2011.

Unfortunately, Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery was one of the affected venues and we sadly closed down for almost four years.

In August 2016, we opened our door to the public and moved on again with this August 5th 2017 as our Reopening One Year Anniversary!

It is our honour presenting the “Ringing True” Exhibition by Famous Artist Keith Morant as One Year Reopening Celebration Ceremony.

- “Ringing True” Exhibition by Famous Artist Keith Morant.

Ringing True is an exhibition based mainly on the form of the circle and Morant says:
“There is nothing on this planet or, indeed, in time, space or the space-time continuum of this universe that is not based on the circle. The circle is the symbol of totality, perfection, unity and eternity, which embodies and projects, in direct contradiction to all our illusions of permanence, the greater truths of mutability and transience. This exhibition stems from my deepest belief that, beyond all outside influences, the artist must always ‘ring true’ in his or her effort to transmit human empathy and compassion.”

A sneak peak of this exhibition starts early August (around August 4th and 5th). August 12th is the official opening of this fantastic exhibition.

- Ceramica Exhibition:
This exhibition presents work by Morant’s wife, Tricia. Her show is titled Ceramica; a wonderful collection of her unique pottery. They have been together for over forty years and we are very proud to present this creative couple in the same exhibition.

While it may be previewed from August 1st, this exhibition will open with an official ceremony on August 12th and run to December 24th.

- The World is a Rainbow Photography Exhibition (will be available until 3rd of September 2017).

The 'Planets and Bubbles' Justine created began with the love of photographing the diverse natural environment of Aotearoa New Zealand. Whether it is a view to the horizon, coastal stones, a wild flower or an unloved weed, the forms of the subject, the colours, shades and textures can be arranged into an 'own world'.

With artistic photo shoots taken, Justine then spends time at home on the computer selecting elements in to reimagining and cherishing each image.

- Aqua ET Lux by Artist Ken Clark(will be available from 9th September to 8th October 2017).

Born in Christchurch, Ken Clark is one of the few New Zealand artists to be selected for the “On Screen” project at the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London. This series of prints is his investigation into the visual intersection of fluid and light effects and the conversation created by this interaction and the landscapes or mindscapes that evolve.

In this series, he has been influenced by Plato’s explanation of how we see; gentle fire coming from our eyes and combining with daylight to form an homogeneous “body of vision” so we can detect visual objects. The work is a digital manipulation of video frames of water and recorded light effects.

- Special Ikebana Flower Arrangement:
It is our greatest pleasure to present the Special Ikebana Flower Arrangement from 4th to 6th of August.
