St Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Boulcott Street Wellington was opened on 26 March 1922 and is the third Church built on this site.

It was designed by the well know architect Frederic de Jersey Clere who based his design on the 13th century Cathedral of St Michael & St Gudula in Brussels. It is believed to be the first Gothic church in the world to be constructed of reinforced concrete.

The Church has recently reopened after a major seismic strengthening upgrade over the past four years. This has brought the Church up to 100% on the New Building Standard. It is a Category 1 Heritage listed building. The seismic upgrade included new ground beams and ground anchors underneath the Church, replacing columns, portals, the construction of two shear walls and a new roof structure to increase the strength of the building.

During Wellington City Heritage Week the public are invited to visit the Church. Each day at 3pm a short video of the seismic strengthening will be shown.

Mass is held Monday - Friday 7:30am, 12:05pm & 5:15pm. Saturday 11am. Sunday 7am, 9am, and 11am (Choral) & 5pm.

This event is part of Wellington City Heritage Week.
