Tanabata is a Japanese star festival that happens every year on the 7th day of July, the 7th month and is known as the “Evening of the Sevens”.

Here at Earth & Sky, we just couldn't resist the opportunity to introduce the festival that is so closely linked with stars. This year, we will be hosting our annual Tanabata Star-party on Saturday, July 29th at Earth&Sky's Cowan's Observatory.

*Please note: Due to the very low temperatures of Tekapo’s winter season, we strongly discourage parents from bringing very young children to the star party. If you choose to bring infants, please make sure you are adequately prepared for the cold weather.

The star-party uses a free flow format allowing you to visit our astronomy guides and learn about different celestial objects viewed through our telescopes. Group photography service is available and is complimentary (available for download from our Flickr website).

Tea and biscuits are also served as a snack during the star-party. If no stars are visible, then there will not be a star-party. Stargazers of all nationalities are welcome, but please be aware that the main commentary language is English.

You are able to book via email at info@earthandsky.co.nz or via our website at: http://www.earthandskynz.com/window-to-the-universe/…/events.
