The Compassion Soup Kitchen is proud to present Te Hā Tangata – a Human Library on Homelessness.

Our homeless are the books, you are the reader. Hear the voices of our Taonga, our treasures, New Zealander's who have experienced homelessness, as they tell their own stories.

An Aotearoa first, this human library project on homelessness provides a platform for our homeless community to tell their story to members of the public in small groups, as they're so often talked about, but not talked or listened to. This project has been developed over three months with regular workshops on story-telling for our Taonga, and will culminate in three 'libraries' where our Taonga (particpants/books) tell their stories: once to their whānau, once to the public and one to community leaders. Taonga will also receive a special printed copy of their narrative, developed by the Taonga with support from students at Massey University, the Compassion Soup Kitchen and Caxton. A Te Hā Tangata book is being produced to document and evaluate the process so it might be replicated elsewhere.

You are invited to attend the Public Library. Entry is by koha.

Te Hā Tangata is proudly brought to you by the Compassion Soup Kitchen, Te Whakamura Ai Te Ahi and Massey University. We are thankful for the generous funding and support from the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO, Ngati Kahungunu Whānau Services and Caxton.
