Ever wanted to write a crime novel? If so, this course is the place to start.

You will receive tips on everything from how to craft compelling plots, characters and settings to developing good timing and narrative drive. You will also be introduced to a range of authors and styles and undertake guided exercises to familiarise yourself with the requirements of the genre and discover your writing voice.

Recommended pre-course reading (not mandatory, but desirable):
- Talking about Detective Fiction – PD James
- Books to Die For – John Connolly and Declan Burke
- The Simple Art of Murder – Raymond Chandler
- Bird by Bird – Anne Lamott.

This course is for anyone interested in writing crime fiction. It will also suit those seeking to improve their writing skills, whatever the genre, as it examines essential aspects of novel writing such as plot, character and pacing.
