Comedic French drama set in a countryside community where the people's reliable doctor, Jean-Pierre (François Cluzet), falls ill. Nathalie (Marianne Denicourt), a young hospital doctor, fills his place while also aiding Jean-Pierre, forcing her to prove that she can replace a man deemed irreplaceable. For three decades, Dr. Jean-Pierre Werner (Francois Cluzet-The Intouchables)) has looked after the citizens of a small slice of the French countryside.

Professional but polite, Werner's easy bedside manner has charmed and calmed everyone suffering from pregnancies to pulmonary embolisms. But now he's facing a health and career crisis of his own. Diagnosed with a tumour, Werner is advised to stop work to give himself a chance of beating it. When he refuses, his clinician and friend comes up with an alternative solution.

When Natalie Delezia (Marianne Denicourt) walks into his office, he thinks she's a patient. In fact, she's a nurse turned graduate doctor, hired to assist, with a view to taking over his practice. However, that's not something that Werner or his patients are going to accept without a fight.

Medically trained French filmmaker Thomas Lilti's tale is a slight, but sweet character study whose handheld footage and terrific performances add greatly to its charm. There's something of a James Herriot feel to his rounds and the locals he encounters, while his struggle to accept he's not irreplaceable will strike a chord with many of the film's target audience.

As in his last hit film The Intouchables, Cluzet makes the most of the drama and humour inherent in a seemingly odd couple relationship, while Denicourt (Me Without You) makes for a feisty foil.

Throw in an eclectic soundtrack that includes Cotton Eye Joe and Leonard Coen's Hallelujah and Lilti delivers a holistic, occasionally haunting little drama.
