When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Acclaimed and relatable; The First Time explores the lives of women as they encounter the setbacks that being a young person brings, for the first time. The script won ‘Highly Commended’ in Playmarket’s Playwrights b425 competition in 2016, and debuted a highly successful season at BATS Theatre in March.

The First Time is now heading to Circa Two for your chance to walk through the minds of five women as they fearlessly question the messiness that being a young person brings.

Want to understand your daughter, your best friend or even yourself a bit better? The First Time provides an eye-opening insight into the realities of being a young woman in Wellington. Find yourself and people you know in their stories. Reflect on how far you’ve come. Laugh, cry and feel understood.

The Pantograph Punch praises that “the refreshing writing and strong performances all operate within the female gaze, and that is worth celebrating.” The First Time is written about women from the perspective of women.

In a city where protests are held to combat headlining comments made by schoolboys online, The First Time provides an accessible platform to see what women live through day-to-day in 2017, where these stories and perspectives are validated and celebrated.

Content warning: contains coarse language and discussion of both mental health and sexual assault.

“Sharp writing, fine direction and great acting.” - The Huffington Post.

“The writing is exciting, contemporary and relevant… ‘the first time’ is gritty and real but never preachy.”

What is life if you can’t gram it? Award-winning script; The First Time, invites you to walk through the minds of five women who are fearlessly exploring the messiness of life that being a 20 something brings.
