Travel with Steam Incorporated north from Kapiti via the spectacular Manawatu Gorge to Woodville for an easy day out.

The train will be hauled by our steam locomotive Ab608 Passchendaele, and we will be using our fleet of classic red heritage carriages.

Passenger stops will be Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, Shannon and Palmerston North. Destinations are either Ashhurst for a meal or Woodville for the ride through the Manawatu Gorge.

The train will include a buffet car selling hot food, drinks and snacks, and our souvenir counter for all sorts of railway and steam memorabilia.

Enroute to Woodville we will be making a special stop at Shannon to allow you to explore some of the boutique shops. Such as Legacy Antiques, Gorgeous (beautiful handmade clothes), Shannigans (small mall with a variety of boutique shops), Oosh, Oosh La La, For Frocks Sake (a range of amazing gift and clothing stores by Suzy Q), Nikiz (handmade clothing and craft) and much more. The shopping area is directly over the road from the station. Also plenty of options for a coffee. The Station Museum will be open.

There will be a one hour stopover at Woodville while the loco is turned and serviced. You will be able to watch it running around a special 'balloon loop' to turn.

At Woodville we hope to have some food and craft stalls set up at the station showcasing local produce and crafts. Included will be the local Rotary group offering a range of hot snacks. If you want some exercise it is a 15 minute walk from the station to the town centre.

On the return journey we intend making a stop at a suitable location for you to photograph the train in action.

There is also the option of alighting at Ashhurst to enjoy a Sunday lunch at the Ashhurst Inn. A selection of mains plus dessert. Expected menu options are NZ Sirloin Steak, Pan Fried Hoki, Vegetarian Lentil Patty salad and their classic Pork or Chicken Schnitzel. Followed by a homemade Fruit Crumble. The restaurant is just across the road from the station. Limited spaces available and must be prebooked. We will pick you up on the return trip.

New Gold Class. Travel in our latest carriage which is fitted out as a club car. Plush sofa seating (inwards facing), some table seating, tinted windows and your own servery. Limited seating.

Surcharge applies. Includes complimentary welcome drink, morning and afternoon tea or coffee.

We also offer group discounts for 8 to 15 passengers and for 16 or more passengers. It is also possible to book your own carriage. These range from 40 to 55 seats.
