The Motorway is based on the story La Autopista del Sur (The Southern Thruway) by Argentinean writer Julio Cortázar. The story originally written in the 1960s is of particular interest in today’s society.

All of us have experienced, at least ones, being stuck in a traffic jam, even here in Dunedin! How we deal with it is sometimes more important than being stuck in it.

When everything stops, you have the chance to meet and acknowledge the presence of others. The Motorway celebrates the encounter between people, meeting someone by chance during an awfully long traffic jam. People helping and taking care of each other, only because they were lucky to get stuck in a traffic jam.

Performer: Moira Fortin
Director: Richard Huber
Choreographer: Sofia Kalogeropoulou
Lighting Designer: Marty Roberts
