The Nanny Assis Band opens the Queenstown JazzFest with an entertaining mix of jazz and Brazilian rhythm. Performing an eclectic repertoire of songs that are both romantic and upbeat, with a bit of New York style – from Bossa Nova, Jobim, Gilberto, Dave Brubeck, Stevie Wonder to Ella Fitzgerald.

Nanny Assis is a world renowned percussionist, vocalist and songwriter, voted best male vocalist and best show – 2017 New York Music Awards. Nanny regularly performs at The Blue Note, BB Kings and Zinc Jazz in New York and internationally.

Nanny is joined by Maggie Gould on vocals, Kevin Field, keyboard, Alex Griffith, bass and Ron Samson, drums, all quality international musicians to create an intimate evening of story telling that will have the audience dancing in the aisles.

Maggie Gould sings with sultry softness with influences ranging from Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, to Etta James and Bossa Nova style.

Kevin Field is a dynamic and experienced jazz pianist and composer who has collaborated with some of the top international names in jazz.

Alex Griffith is well known in New Zealand as one of most funky, jazz and Latin bass players.

Canadian Ron Samsom is a master drummer and composer now based in Aotearoa. Ron is currently the coordinator of jazz performance at the University of Auckland.
