Would your kids love to get creative these holidays? At these 2-hour upcycling workshops for children aged 6-12, your kids will have a blast learning new crafting skills under the guidance of artist Saskia Stein (The Resourceful Bubble). After producing handmade treasures with new friends, your kids gain new creative skills for life and have the chance to sell them to other kids at an Upcycled Market in town on the last Sunday of the holidays!

Discovering how creativity can turn simple everyday materials into wonderful treasures that others value is a fabulous, hands-on way for our new generation to experience circular thinking: reduce, reuse, recycle, upcycle, sell, enjoy!

Upcycling Workshops: Sunday 9 & Saturday 15 July, XCHC.
Upcycled Market: Sunday 23 July, Mataī Common, Mollett St.

Choose from three different workshops, fabric, papier-mâché and creative junk. Please note that two options (fabric and creative junk) only require attendance at one session, but participating in the papier-mâché workshop requires attendance at two sessions (because of their treasures dry for a week before being painted the following week).

Parents: Our venue is The Exchange Christchurch (XCHC) in Wilsons Road. You can choose to stay and help or duck away for a well-deserved break and pop back in time for pickup!

About the Upcycled Market

This will be held on the last Sunday of the holidays, at Mataī Common on Mollett Street. Kids stall sites are free, so it's a great chance to make some pocket money selling the creative delights they've worked so hard on. Bring whatever you've recycled or upcycled and would like to sell, and whatever you need to set up your own stall. Just remember to register to secure a space!

When is the Upcycled Market? Sunday 23 July, 1-3pm.
Stall holders can and have to be setting up from11.30 and before 12.15pm.

All welcome!!
To register your stall space, please contact me on 027 363 5805 or email:

Stall site cost:
Kids' stall - free
Recycled/Upcycled Stall Sites run by grown-ups - $20
Food/drink sites - $25

Where is Mataī Common? It's a newly opened gathering place on Mollett Street (runs between Durham and Colombo Streets, on the block bound by Tuam and St Asaph Streets).

Fun fact: Mataī Common is part of "The South Frame", one of the city's recovery projects. It sits on Mollett St and in future, it will be surrounded by cafes, galleries, schools and accommodation. In the past, Mollett Street was home to a handmade goods market. But this Upcycled Market will be the first ever market on Mataī Common!
