The Three Altos - A Viola Spectacular

Mon 4 Sep 2017, 7:30pm–9:30pm

Where: Michael Fowler Centre, 111 Wakefield Street, Wellington

Restrictions: All Ages

Listed by: wellingtonvioladuck

An evening of sublime music featuring three top international soloists.

Russian-Italian violist extraordinaire, Anna Serova, will perform the NZ premiere of Boris Pigovat's achingly beautiful "Poem of Dawn" and the world premiere of Roberto Molinelli's extraordinary "Lady Walton's Garden", rich with Argentinean flavour, rhythms and excitement - don't be surprised if it breaks into some tango dancing - anything is possible!

Roger Myers (USA) will open the concert with the world premiere of a new orchestrated take on Robert Schumann's enchanting "Fairy Tale Pictures" and Roger Benedict (Australia) will close it with a performance of the world's most popular viola concerto, by Sir William Walton. In collaboration with our incredible NZSO, conducted by Hamish McKeich, this promises to be an unforgettable event and a New Zealand cultural highlight of the year.

This concert is the gala event of the 44th International Viola Congress, which from September 1-5 will see Wellington under siege by over 100 musicians, representing over twenty countries in over forty events including recitals, lectures, master classes and panel discussions.
