Strength-based, practical strategies to support children with autism in the primary school setting

Autism New Zealand is excited to announce a discounted Tilting the Seesaw for Southland, thanks to funds raised by Fight for Kidz 2016

Tilting the Seesaw Southland is a two-session programme in which primary school staff learn and try out strategies to support and include a child with autism in everyday school activities.

Learning Outcomes:
Identify how autism may impact on, and is expressed in, a child with autism
Create and use visual supports to reduce anxiety and increase independence
Develop an autism-friendly physical environment, and engage peer support
Use stories to support understanding, develop self-esteem and give information
Adapt classroom lessons, and support independence in classroom and playground
Analyse and manage inappropriate behaviour.

The Tilting the Seesaw programme is specifically designed for primary school teachers, teacher aides, SENCOs and RTLBs.
