Strength-based, practical strategies to support children with autism in the primary school setting

Autism New Zealand is excited to announce a discounted Tilting the Seesaw for Southland, thanks to funds raised by Fight for Kidz 2016

What:
Tilting the Seesaw Southland is a two-session programme in which primary school staff learn and try out strategies to support and include a child with autism in everyday school activities.

Learning Outcomes:
Identify how autism may impact on, and is expressed in, a child with autism
Create and use visual supports to reduce anxiety and increase independence
Develop an autism-friendly physical environment, and engage peer support
Use stories to support understanding, develop self-esteem and give information
Adapt classroom lessons, and support independence in classroom and playground
Analyse and manage inappropriate behaviour.

Who:
The Tilting the Seesaw programme is specifically designed for primary school teachers, teacher aides, SENCOs and RTLBs.
