A revue of the witty, wicked and thoroughly twisted world of famed satirical songwriter Tom Lehrer.
When Tom Lehrer's songs first surfaced in the 1950s, they seemed the last word in witty naughtiness.

Lehrer had the temerity to be rude about all sorts of sacred cows - from the Boy Scouts to nuclear militarism - but his rudeness always came veiled in charm. However biting his lyrics, he'd still leave you with a winning tune to hum. ''Tomfoolery'' is a compilation of virtually all the best Lehrer ditties - 28 in total.

What makes Lehrer especially prescient and relevant is his discussion of issues in the 1950s and 1960s that never really went away, or were never fully resolved. For example, songs like “I Wanna Go Back To Dixie”, which deals with the semi-permanent state of racism in the southern states of the US (written in the 1960s) and which echo the horrific events of Charlottesville in the last few months.

“Pollution”, also written 50 years ago, echoes our ongoing issues with water quality in New Zealand and air quality around the world. Songs such as “Who’s Next?”, “So Long Mom”, and “We Will All Go Together When We Go” also reflect the 1960s fear of nuclear annihilation, which for new and disturbing reasons is very much current in 2017.
