From the people that brought you The Bookbinder, The Road That Wasn't There is off to Edinburgh Festival Fringe and we need your help to get there! So pop along to this one-off event - a reinvigorated, ready-to-take-on-the-world version of this award-winning show.

Combining puppetry, shadow play and live music, Trick of the Light's The Road That Wasn’t There is a dark fable for adults and older children (7+).

Written by Ralph McCubbin Howell, directed by Hannah Smith, with music by Tane Upjohn-Beatson, and featuring Auckland's finest Elle Wootton, and the return of the prodigal son, Minister of Transport, Paul Bugs Waggott.

A young woman strays from the beaten track and finds herself in a paper world. It seems a land of possibilities but she soon discovers things that happen in the fictional world can have frighteningly real consequences.

Dark, humorous and thoroughly enchanting, Trick of the Light Theatre has created this original New Zealand fairy tale reminiscent Neil Gaiman, Pan's Labyrinth, and the late (great) Margaret Mahy.

Outstanding New NZ Play - Chapman Tripp Awards 2013.
Best Children’s Event - Fringe World, Perth 2016
Best Children's Event - Adelaide Fringe 2016.

“Charming, funny and haunting in equal measure... a storytelling triumph.” - Word on the Street, Wellington
