American President Donald Trump’s confirmation he was pulling America out of the Paris Climate Agreement last month met with almost universal condemnation and some alarm.

But New Zealand geologist Dr Peter Barrett – veteran climate change Antarctic scientist and executive producer of ‘Thin Ice: The Inside Story of Climate Science’ – suggests Trump’s actions might be a circuit breaker, triggering the momentum needed to achieve the Paris targets.

Join us upstairs at Sherwood to watch the movie and a 12-minute video by NASA’s Eric Rignot, filmed this February, explaining the need for urgent action to reduce CO2 emissions to zero by around 2050. Then a conversation with Dr Barrett on positive moves both overseas and in NZ.

Barrett believes NZ moves like the “Net Zero in NZ” report, the April 13 cross-party Parliamentary debate on climate change, and Generation Zero’s Carbon Zero Act campaign show the message is, at last, getting through, credible options for reducing carbon emissions are available, and politicians should be encouraged to act this election year.
