The Upstream Art Trail is a biennial temporary public art exhibition in Wellington’s Central Park organised by Upstream: Friends of Central Park.

The next Art Trail will showcase the work of 15 emerging artists and a combined work by five local primary schools.

In addition to the art on show visitors can enjoy live music, a family-friendly environment, and food and drink from local stallholders in the relaxing “beer garden”.

The inaugural exhibition in March 2015 was well attended and proved a hit with local residents, visitors, and the Wellington arts community. Attendees commented on the quality, diversity and accessibility of the artworks on show, and the event won the “Best Visual Arts” award at the New Zealand Fringe Festival.

The theme for the 2017 Upstream Art Trail is ‘structure’ and the artists have interpreted this in varied and innovative ways.

Get your visual arts fix as you wander ‘upstream’ through the park and experience art in a fun and relaxed environment.
