To Celebrate Waipukurau's 150th anniversary, come along for a ride on Pahiatua Railcar Societies Vintage 1938 Standard railcar and experience a ride in style on our ex NZ Railways railcar.

People wanting to buy a return ticket to Waipukurau can visit and book via the excursion tab to enjoy a day in Central Hawke's Bay.

Once the rail car arrives in Waipukrau, there will be 5 shuttles running throughout the day between Waipukurau and/either Takapau and Otane each shuttle taking around 40 minutes return. Please book to avoid disappointment on the day.

First shuttle – Waipukrau – Otane – Waipukurau will depart at 10.30 am and return at 11.05 am
Second shuttle Waipukurau – Takapau – Waipukurau will depart at 11.15 am and return at 12.00 pm
Third Shuttle Waipukurau – Otane – Waipukura will depart at 1 pm and return at 1.35 pm
Fourth Shuttle Waipukurau – Takapau – Waipukurau will depart at 2 pm and return at 2.45 pm
Fifth Shuttle Waipukurau – Otane – Waipukurau will depart at 3 pm and return at 3.40pm

The Rail car will then depart for Palmerston North at 4 pm.

Rm31 has historical ties with Waipukurau from when it was built in the NZR Hutt workshops in 1937 then entering service in 1938 it ran regularly on the Hawkes Bay line from 1938 till 1970 when it was replaced by the larger twin set railcars then later by the Endeavour Express train.

Limited seats available on all shuttles of 52 seats.

NB The Rail car is not suitable for passengers with frail movement or disabilities. No wheelchair access and passengers are required to walk to allocated seats.
