Part of the Mahi Aroha Summer Programme: Take a rare and guided visit to the Waiouru Military Base, the Moawhango Ecological District and the home of the wild Kaimanawa horse.

View spectacular scenery not often seen by the public, and learn about the unique management and conservation projects going on to ensure a sustainable environment for military exercises, horses and native flora alike.

Meeting:
- 7:45am at DOC Taupo Office, 37 Motutaiko Street, Taupo or
- 8:30am at Turangi i-SITE Ngawaka Place, Turangi, or
- 9:20am behind the Army Museum, Waiouru

Age: 6 and up.
Grade: 1 Easiest - Little or no walking. Average fitness and reasonable health required.

Transport: Bus.

Maximum participants: 70
Minimum participants: 30

What to bring:
- Warm clothing
- Appropriate shoes
- Waterproof jacket
- Sunglasses/sunscreen/sunhat
- Lunch and drink
- Personal medication

Know before you go:
This trip crosses through the New Zealand Army training ground. Follow instructions of the trip leader and stay on the guided routes.

Cancellations:
The decision to cancel a trip due to weather is often unable to be made until just before the scheduled departure time. Trips may also be cancelled a week out if the minimum participant number is not reached.
