A Ceilidh Band of musicians, well-known from both Folk Club and the Monday night traditional sessions including Russell Gillies and Sophia Bidwell, will provide the music for the called Ceilidh dance.

This is a night for everyone to participate in, you don’t need a partner. To make sure everyone knows what to do, ‘caller’, Gary Elford, explains and demonstrates each dance before everyone ‘walks the dance’ to learn the steps – then it’s off at a pace!

Described in a dictionary as "an informal social gathering at which there is Scottish or Irish folk music and singing and folk dancing and even story telling". A Ceilidh (pronounced "Kay-lay", emphasis on 1st syllable) is many things to many people. It derives from the Gaelic word meaning a 'visit' and originally meant just that. It can also mean a 'house party', a 'concert' or more usually an evening of 'informal Celtic traditional dancing to informal music'.

Be prepared to join in the infectious, toe-tapping jigs and reels, have fun, laugh, dance and get to know the other dancers.

Doors open 7pm.
Performance starts at 7:30pm, you will get a seat if you arrive close to 7pm.

Irish Society Hall is situated up the long driveway, directly next to Domain Park, and there is plenty of well-lit off-street parking.

Door sales cash only: Tea, coffee, biscuits and cake available during the break, also bar facilities for cold refreshments throughout the night, Eftpos available for purchases only, no cash-out facility.

Please remember to bring your current Folk Club membership card as this is required for new club licensing.
