An evening with Chris Pugsley and Chris Bourke as they trade stories, songs and pictures in an illustrated talk, bringing a fresh look to cultural change during WWI.

The two well-known historians have recently looked at how film and music reflected New Zealand’s role in the First World War. Chris Pugsley’s recent book The Camera in the Crowd: Filming New Zealand in Peace and War, 1895–1920 has substantial material about how New Zealand audiences experienced the war in cinemas, and Chris Bourke considered the wartime use of music in Good-bye Maoriland: The Songs and Sounds of New Zealand’s Great War.

A Different Lens: Looking Afresh at WWI is a multi-media talk in which Chris Pugsley and Chris Bourke share their discoveries from the archives.
