During World War II, New Zealanders created the Polish Army League, banding together to supply Polish soldiers, fighting alongside Anzac troops, with the same parcels and letters that Kiwi soldiers enjoyed.

In Palmerston North, the League was sending parcels overseas at a rate of up to 50 a month. New members "adopted" individual Polish soldiers and took a personal interest in their welfare.

Te Manawa presents an exhibition celebrating "niezniszczalna więź przyjaźni" - an unbreakable bond of friendship - between New Zealand and Poland. It features "trench art" made by Polish troops to thank their supporters back in Aotearoa - people they would never meet.
