‘And Byrds do Sing’ features madrigals from the 16th century and takes its name from the English composer William Byrd. Interspersed among the madrigals will be some more serious pieces from Byrd’s four-part mass.

‘The pieces are short and approachable, and are the sorts of pieces that were widely sung by small groups in their homes as entertainment’, says the choir’s musical director Felicity O’Brien.

Schola Cantorum was founded in 1987 to preserve and perform the rich tradition of Mediaeval and Renaissance music, which includes plain chant, polyphony and madrigals.

While most of the music in this performance dates from the sixteenth century, several more recent compositions are also included. Entry is by programme for sale at the door.
