Departing from Te Papa at 9am join us for a fabulous day of art, culture and history in the Wairarapa.

Our first stop is at the Featherston Heritage Museum where we will have a short tour. Throughout the period 2014-2019 the Wairarapa community are been celebrating the centenary of World War 1 in many ways.

The Museum, which opened in 2000, contains photographs and memorabilia from Featherston Military camp (1916-1919), and Featherston POW Camp (1942-1946). The museum is opening especially for us and is sure to be a fascinating stop.

We will then continue on to Aratoi in Masterton. The Minkisi is a unique exhibition of 100 rare objects from 10 African countries: it includes rare masks, instruments and statues which offer insights into African tribal life.

All objects form part of the Desmond Bovey collection and Mr Bovey himself will be travelling down from Whanganui especially to join us to speak about the exhibition and collection. Lunch will be available at the ‘Entice’ café which adjoins Aratoi at the participants own expense.

This tour will be a fantastic balance between different disciplines and unique subject areas which caters to many different tastes, so we hope you’ll join us for a lovely day out in the waiarapa.

We will be returning to Wellington, arriving at approximately 4.30pm. Bring a friend along at the members price!
