Bach Musica NZ presents Antonín Dvořák’s beautiful and tear-evoking Stabat Mater on Sunday, 7 October, 5pm at Auckland Town Hall.

Due to its exceptional musical and spiritual qualities, Dvořák’s oratorio has become the most famous setting of the mediaeval liturgical sequence Stabat Mater and it is also one of the composer’s most popular and most frequently performed works.

While Dvořák composed the piece after losing three of his children, and the literary source of the oratorio speaks of the darker aspects of human life, his music reflects neither resignation nor hopelessness. In his masterpiece we look through a veil of tears and see faith and love win life – a timeless contemplation which couldn’t be more valuable in this day and age.

Bach Musica NZ is delighted to welcome some of New Zealand’s finest soloists: Freemasons resident artist at the NZ Opera, soprano Emma Sloman; winner of the Maori Song Aria Competition, mezzo soprano Elisha Hulton, highly-acclaimed international tenor Patrick Power and bass Simon Christie, both having performed in many of the world’s greatest opera houses.

Led by international conductor and Music & Artistic Director Rita Paczian, this is going to be a concert not to be missed!
