Cantoris' final 2018 concert is a salute to choral music and the joy of singing together - Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle.

Better known to audiences as a composer of comic operas, and by his own admission far more comfortable in that realm, Gioachino Rossini also composed chamber music and sacred works.

One of the better-known pieces in this genre is his Petite Messe Solennelle – Little solemn mass. Written in 1863, it is commonly attributed as a birthday gift for the Countess Louise Pillet-Will, the wife of his good friend and confidant Count Alexis Pillet-Will.

Cantoris will share the stage and perform this superbly crafted dedication with one of New Zealand’s sought-after concert pianists, Diedre Irons.

Come and delight in the heartfelt yet unpretentious study that Rossini hoped would finally ‘grant him into Paradise’.

Music Director: Thomas Nikora.

Door sales will also be available on concert day.
