It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and the key theme of this year’s event is ‘let nature in’.

In recent years, the Department of Conservation (DOC) and the Mental Health Foundation have partnered together to promote the positive effects of nature on our well-being. This means encouraging more people to get out and enjoy what nature has to offer on a regular basis.

If you're keen to get outside and be part of a Mental Health Awareness Week activity, then consider joining the local Department of Conservation team for a walk and weed along the wonderfully scenic Cathedral Cove track in Hahei. The aim is to get you out experiencing nature while doing something positive for the environment as well as your health!

Expect to be walking for around an hour in each direction, depending on the number of weeds we need to stop and attack along the way. Participants will need to wear good walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. All equipment will be provided but please bring a small back-pack with a packed lunch and plenty of water - you are welcome to bring your own weeding gloves too.

Weeding will begin from the Cathedral Cove carpark. As there are parking restrictions, please use the park and ride service, available from Hahei (Go-Kiwi Shuttles). Shuttle details can be found by following the link below:

Please note, this event will not go ahead if it rains.
