In this six-episode television programme for children, produced in New Zealand in 1984, strange things start to happen shortly after twelve-year-old Gretchen comes to stay on her uncle's farm for the holidays. Gretchen befriends Ronny, a Māori boy with a troubled city past, and Bevis the bird watching son of a loathed developer. Tension is already high as the developer wants to buy and drain a local swamp for a housing estate, but Ronny's uncle is the guardian of a traditional Māori tapu upon the swamp. The swamp must not be touched—something sleeps there that must not be awakened. Something unnatural.

Episode Three: Swamp Light
Gretchen tells her aunt the legend of Sirius, traditional beliefs of an African tribe, the Dogan, who tell of space creatures coming to Earth from a star in orbit around Sirius. While sneaking out at night to record bird sounds in the swamp, Bevis overhears Herbert Mitchell scheming to blame the survey interruptions on Ronny. In the swamp, Bevis encounters the source of the mysterious lights and is knocked unconscious by a surge of electricity.

Episode Four: Alien Summons
The community organises a search of the swamp to find Bevis who is found unconscious by Ronny and Gretchen. Gretchen tells Ronny about the artifact saving her life when she fell and he confesses to having similar dreams to hers. The pair return to the swamp to investigate another brass object Ronny saw when he found Bevis. Gretchen borrows her uncle' horse to haul the large object out of the swamp and hide it in an old defence bunker.
