Aldebaran, A red giant star, the eye of Taurus, and from the Arabic meaning ‘the follower’. Aldebaran band bring you jazz vibes resonating from deep space.

John Bell is one of Australasia’s leading vibes players and has performed everywhere on earth from Berlins Bb club to Fukuokas New Combo jazz club. He was also leader of the critically acclaimed bands ‘Spoilers of Utopia’ and NZDCCB. John has played with many jazz luminaries in NZ, Australia, South Korea and Europe including Steve Lacy, Han Bennink, Alfred Harth and Sun Bae Choi.

Phil Broadhurst MNZM (piano) an icon of New Zealand jazz, legend from the 70s and beyond in space time co-leader of ‘Sustenance’ and recent winner of NZ jazz album of the year Phil has played with Jonny Griffin and Micheal Brecker.

Steve Cournane (drums) a colleague of John Bell’s since the 1990s brings his 7 years of experience living and working as a musician in Latin America. Steve has performed with Marilyn Crispell, Mike del Ferro and his band C.L. Bob won NZ jazz album of the year at the turn of the millennia. Eamon Edmundson-Wells (bass) is one of New Zealand’s consistent purveyor of bass frequency cosmic waves.

The vibraphone quartet is a common line up, one only need to think of the MJQ or Bobby Hutcherson with McCoy Tyner, George Cable and others... There are many less famous names that also offered interesting angles on this classic combination. Aldebaran perform original compositions that will radiate vibes from a new direction.
