Book now to farewell the Winter blues and enjoy this heart-warming classic of Comic Opera, the ever-popular masterwork of composer Johann Strauss.

Memorable catchy tunes are woven into a plot of subterfuge, mistaken identities and involuntary impersonations with hilarious consequences, amid one great central deception schemed for Herr von Eisenstein’s come-uppance as The Revenge of the Bat.

Following a party Eisenstein had abandoned an intoxicated Dr Falke in the town square in fancy dress as a bat, to wake in the morning on a park bench to general ridicule. Falke plans his clever revenge - by means which unfold as the opera proceeds through its three acts, set successively in the Eisenstein mansion, Prince Orlofsky’s country estate, and Eisenstein’s imprisonment.

The music of this refined and most accessible work is introduced by the Overture which is one of the most popular ever written, frequently played as a stand-alone concert piece in its own right, with five of the best themes woven into a framework of the great “Fledermaus Waltz”. Theatregoers will recognise much of the music, including the famed “Czardas” aria and maid Adele’s “Laughing Song.”

This touring production, performed in English, is traditionally staged, with full sets and splendid costumes, by the producers of recent tours including Gypsy Baron, The Mikado, The Merry Widow and Iolanthe!

The creative team from last year’s acclaimed Iolanthe tour returns: Direction is by John Goddard with choreography by Lia Purcell, and the cast of 40 singers and dancers with 30 piece orchestra is conducted by Hugh McMillan; live music at its best, in the established tradition of WGSLO touring production values.

WGSLO is determined to make this level of presentation available to a wide range of patrons. Matinee performances are offered at all venues for ready accessibility to this all-age entertainment. Multiple seating reserves and concession options combine to provide all-age and family cost accessibility.
