Diwali - also known as the Festival of Lights - is Wellington's local Indian and South East Asian communities' most vibrant cultural celebration.

The lighting of lamps at this ancient Hindu festival symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and the renewal of life.

Bring along the whole family to sample the colours, sounds, tastes and spicy aromas of India. Highlights of the festival include delicious Indian vegetarian food stalls; traditional and contemporary dance, music and fashion; arts, craft and henna stalls; and an exhibition on the Celebration of Lights, highlighting the significance of lamps and lanterns.

Enjoy eight hours of non-stop cultural entertainment from local, regional and international artists showcasing traditional, contemporary, folk, fusion and the much loved Bollywood and Bhangra performances.

Later, head to Frank Kitts Park promenade to watch the Refresh Renovations Fireworks display at 9.20pm.

Gold coin entry.
